Sport Relief 2012: Go the extra mile

Plymouth gears up for Sport Relief

Sport Relief is back – and it’s coming to Plymouth! The city is set to host one of the flagship Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Miles on Sunday 25th March, and needs the people of Plymouth to show their support by entering now at http://www.sportrelief.com/.

This year, over one million people are expected to pull up their socks and take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in order to raise some serious cash for vulnerable people right here in Plymouth, across the UK and in the world’s poorest countries.

Join thousands of people on Plymouth Hoe promenade before you pass the Royal Citadel and take in stunning views across the Sound. The Plymouth Mile will be packed full of entertainment and friendly faces (some famous) to cheer you on. Last time, more than 3300 people took part in the Plymouth Mile, and the people of the South West raised and donated over £800, 000. Since then, over a £1 million has been spent on local projects in the South West.

Local celebrity Fern Britton has pledged her support for the campaign: “Go that extra mile and be there at the start line for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Plymouth on Sunday 25th March. All the money you raise by getting sponsored will help support fabulous projects helping people living incredibly tough lives here in the South West, across the rest of the UK and in the world’s poorest countries. Who thought making a difference in your community could be so easy? So ready, steady, go to sportrelief.com and enter the Mile now.”

Celebrating the UK’s biggest year of sport, a whole host of famous faces from the world of sport and entertainment will be taking part in Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile events across the length and breadth
