The Royal Oak Inn (Restaurants - English)
Address: Meavy, PL20 6PJ
Tel: click to reveal number
Website: visit website

Situated in the ancient village of Meavy, The Royal Oak is as steeped in history as its pretty Devonshire moorland surroundings. Dominated by its namesake, a magnificent hollow oak which is reputed to have hidden King Charles, the 15th-century inn with its blazing peat fires serves as a comfortable winter hideaway or summer retreat. The food consists of a hearty range of British classics, washed down with a range of international wines plus local cask ales and the traditional scrumpy cider. This is one of the few remaining traditional pubs, with a flagstone floor, old beams and a large open fireplace, whilst some of the seats are pews from the adjacent church.
